GigE Vision Interface Cards for Flexible Multi-Camera Setups

Basler 1GigE and 10 GigE interface cards significantly expand the possibilities for setting up GigE imaging applications. They enable: flexible system configurations of multi-camera setups using additional switches, accommodation of cameras with faster interface than 1GigE, and use of single-cable solutions for data transfer and power supply via Power over Ethernet (PoE).

GigE boards are required when the PC used has only a single LAN port already occupied by (for example) the machine controller, or when the PC does not have a Power over Ethernet (PoE) function for the power supply. Using the GigE boards, a single-cable solution can be implemented using the PoE function, thus enabling a multi-camera system to be developed with reduced system complexity. Depending on the application scenario and the camera used, our portfolio offers corresponding 1GigE interface cards with or without PoE function, as well as 10GigE interface cards.

Our approach

The cards are compatible with cameras from other manufacturers, and with various software packages, but are optimized for use with Basler cameras and the pylon SDK. The interface cards are tested across the entire product life cycle under normal operating conditions and against operating system updates, to ensure continuous operation.

Basler GigE interface cards are available in two product lines: Standard and Premium.

Tips for the selection of compatible PC cards:

  • If the on-board host controller of the PC is already occupied by a peripheral, dedicated PC cards are recommended to avoid malfunctions.
  • Use tested and approved drivers from the manufacturer.
  • Dedicated chipsets on PC cards can save computational power.
  • Some PC cards can supply the camera directly with electricity. This eliminates additional cables and possibly power adapters.
